Formatting theWord Module Title Page

Formatting theWord Module Title Page is a class that helps theWord module creators make good looking title pages.

Really you can do anything you want when you create a module. But the utility of your created module determines how people will use or delete that module. It also builds a reputation for you, and this is what makes people want to see more modules from you or avoid your module making at all costs.

I have made a lot of modules in my lifetime, both for theWord and eSword, and even including Kindle, PDFs and also MySword. In general, the same principles are in play for everything. But let me just point out, that these modules are not really paper and ink books. In a paper book, the publisher wants the title on a page by itself with very little other information except the print date and publisher/copyright information. That is all fine and good. But that is when some publisher owns the work and is making a paper and ink copy.

You know, I work hard at my websites trying to provide you with good material that is sound doctrinally-speaking and of interest to God's people. It is hard work, but I don't mind doing it, and I feel called to the ministry, and God will bless me after all is said and done. But in the meantime, I do need to cover my expenses. I have a total of 34 websites (half English and half Spanish), and each one costs about $10 per month to keep up. That does not take into consideration my time and effort in writing content. Won't you consider at least a one time donation to this ministry of $10 or $20 dollars? It would be really great if you could gift me and my wife this money so that we could enjoy eating out at least once in a while. (I pay the expenses for these sites out of our living expenses.) God will richly bless you and repay you for your generosity. 1 Timothy 5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. If you received some value from my websites, consider at lest a small donation. A big donation would really be nice, too though.

In the digital realm, other principles are in play. You want your work to look nice for the format that it is being presented in. Consider the image below. It is a title page.

The problem I see with this module is that it has way too much white space before any text. In a normal setup, a user using theWord for Bible Study, he basically has to expand that pane in theWord to take the entire screen for you to see the information. So let’s see.

Now there is very little information in this title page. The bottom line is that it is perfect if it was the title page in a paper and ink book, but in a digital module, no.

Note 1: Do not name your topics “Title” or “Table of Contents” etc.
Note 2: Do not duplicate the numbering in the topic titles. One is sufficient to identify which chapter it is.

Topic “fixed”

I say fixed to my tastes but perhaps you want people to see this title page like this.

In this case each chapter has no title in itself, so we have to go with Book I, Book II, etc. Also most people today, even a lot of preachers, do not read Roman numerals, so I would normally convert those to Arabic numbers 1,2,3,4, etc. But in the case of a classic work like this, I have heard of passages referred to in this work as in Book IV (4). The spoken numeral and the written roman numeral, so I would keep the Roman numerals in this case. It is rare, but I would do it this way.
