Wallace Study on the Greek article before Nouns
This is a brief article on how Greek relates the article and the noun. The article defines the noun as a specific example in its class. That being specific is at the same time general. For example,
an apple – no define article (indefinite article in English, “an”), not specific, any will do.
the apple – the definite thing in its class. In the context usually, what makes this example definite is defined. But grammatically, the definite article, “the” makes the item specific.
a red apple – This is the most specific as the context defines exactly what makes this example of the item specific.
