Must-know tricks and procedures of theWord

Must-know tricks and procedures of theWord is a class for the beginner in theWord. These tricks or methods or procedures are absolutely necessary for the user to work well in theWord. They should be the first things he learns how to do in theWord program.

Set the Default Bible Version

This is going to bother you a lot if you what version of the Bible you want to see is not appearing. Either you did something to change it, or it is defaulting to something else that what you want.

The procedure is to open

Church Planting Articles: Handling Gossip
is a short article on considerations of Pastors being married and having children. These are requirements that God places on pastors. For those who do not think they need to be married, yet qualify for being pastors, the Bible sternly states otherwise.
See my Tract: pc29 Don-t be a Gossip.

  1. Main menu-> File -> Preference
  2. Select Tab Bible Texts,
  3. Click on the version you want to see, and then click “Set as Default”

Extra note: In this same dialog box here you are seeing you can click to not show certain Bible versions if you so desire.

Note that this is only part of it. In the copying of a Bible reference you need to also set that to the version of the Bible you want .

This procedure is to open

  1. Main menu-> File -> Preference
  2. Select Tab Clipboard Monitoring
  3. Set Bible Text to the version you want to see or Default or Current Bible text

Who and when would you want to change this. If you know Greek or Hebrew, you can change the default Bible when you copy a reference to the clipboard so that the popup with the verse will show the Greek/Hebrew text instead of English. If you are using this feature (Greek/Hebrew) you will need to know this to change back and forth.

Copy Bible Reference shows Popup of verse text or turn this off

It is very irritating and disturbing to be working in a module and you copy a Bible reference or series of references and a popup with them pops up. This is an absolute yes I want to see it, or no I don’t. You must dominate this skill or procedure to use effectively theWord.

Procedure to show copied verse references or turn this off.

  1. Main menu -> File-> Preferences
  2. Tab “Clipboard Monitoring”
  3. Check box about 3/4 down, [ ] Disable Clipboard Monitoring

This is very common to switch back and forth when using theWord. If unchecked, the Clipboard monitoring is on.

Making and using Module Set Layouts

For those new to theWord, new modules can be added, but they are not natively seen per se. You must add these new modules to a Module Set Layout. These are like libraries of your modules. Picture a student of Scripture wanting to study some topic in a library in a seminary. There are literally thousands and thousands of books in the area of Christian Reference. If he is studying on the atonement, he doesn’t want to have to filter through books on baptism, the Lord’s Supper, doctrine of the Holy Spirit, etc.

So what does he do? He goes around the library until he finds a section of books on the atonement. There he pulls some dozen or so books on the atonement and puts them on his table. He goes to the card catalogue and looks for atonement, Lamb of God, propitiation, etc. Then he goes out into the library and retrieves those books and puts them on his table. Then he sits down and studies his subject scanning each book to see if it has what he is looking for or not. Basically this is what a module layout set is.

Procedure

  1. Click on the green book icon above the menu in the bookview window.
  2. Select a premade module layout set or the green book icon to make a new layout.
  3. A dialog window will pop up, and there are two tabs, “Choose an existing set / select directly” and “Create a custom set”
  4. What I use mostly is the second one.
  5. Click “clear the tree” (eliminates the currently selected layout set, but doesn’t delete it from the program.
  6. Templates / Group Alphabetically on first letter.As an alternative, depending on what I am doing at the moment…
  7. Click “clear the tree” (eliminates the currently selected layout set, but doesn’t delete it from the program.
  8. Go to the left window and type in a search word or phrase, and sort through the results clicking and dragging to the right hand half and dropping there. Folders can be created and then modules dropped into it. For example, Christ, folder 1, incarnation, folder 2, Trial, 3. Death, 4. Resurrection, etc.

You absolutely cannot use the program very well if you do not have this procedure completely dominated.

Copy and Pasting from whatever application into a Word Processing App

theWord will work with any Word Processing app, notepad, Microsoft Word, etc. This will also work if you are working on a sermon in a module topic in theWord. Open theWord. Press F5.

This is the default page to change your copying format. Sometimes you might want to add the version of the Bible you are using, or put each verse on a separate line, or all in one paragraph, etc.

Change the Language of the Interface

For those who use theWord in two languages, you must be able to switch back and forth between them, so that the program interface is in the language you want. MEGA NOTE: When you tooltip a text, if that text is in another language, theWord will not tooltip many references. Some yes, so like Pro 3:18 in a Spanish text, yes. But James or Acts no, for example, Stg 1:1 or Hechos 1:1. You need to have the Interface in Spanish in order to tooltip a text correctly. Note that in any other language besides English, theWord will always tooltip English references. If your interface is in Spanish, and you have a reference like Jam 3:1 or Acts 1:1, it will tooltip correctly anyway.

Procedure to change the interface langauge

  1. Main menu ->File-> Language
  2. Select the language among those displayed.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You have to install the language file before it will appear. These language files end with the extension .lng and are downloaded from the main theWord website, www.theWord.com->Program Translations. Here you will see some 100+ different languages that the program interface can be changed to. Download the language file you need, and click on it once it is downloaded. Make sure theWord is not running before you click on it. Then restart theWord and change the language.
