BibleView Window Elements Basic

Class Objectives: In this class you will learn the basic elements of the BibleView Window including.

theWord Bibleview. Let’s begin by identifying some of the elements of the BibleView window. Let me also say that there are a lot options here to manipulate, so this class is just the very most basic ones. See other classes in this series to continue learning about these options.

We need to go through each of these elements individually.

Bible Version Selector Bar

This bar should always be present. What appears here will change from user to user. TheWord will not work (will not even load) if there are no Bibles present in its folder. After all, it is a BIBLE SOFTWARE PROGRAM! So you have to have one. The KJV is the default, and I am not sure about this, but I believe it “hides” a copy in its program files, and if you delete all the Bibles it will pull out a spare copy to use.

When you download a Bible for TheWord and install it, it will automatically index the Bible (this is only done the first time TheWord runs and finds a new Bible), so sometimes TheWord loads slowly. So when you download 20 Bible versions and run it, it may take a minute or two extra to index all that. Don’t worry, this is a one-time operation for each Bible Version.

The Bible Versions you have available will appear on this bar, and the bar is dynamic, so it will change what appears as you use different Bibles. The first thing to notice is the double hash marks at the far right of the bar that looks like this “>>”. TW will put the last used Bible versions on the Bar, and the rest are selected by mousing over the double hash mark and selecting from it. Also if you know what version you want, say the “NASB”, then in the far left side of the bar there is a blank white box. Click in the box and start typing the abbreviation you want, and a white selector box will appear below it (I have NASB in the Bible Version search Box, and it appears below it).

Note that the abbreviations are automatically set in each Bible Version module. If you want some other abbreviation or want to edit one (like removing the “(ES)” which was applied when that Bible was imported from an e-Sword Bible module), you will have to open the Bible module (extension “ot” or “nt” or “otn”) and go to the bottom and find it and edit it.

Also notice the last two options on the Bar before the double hash mark.

Compare

By clicking on this you can change from a single Bible version into a compare mode of one or more Bible versions. This also allows you to select the Bible Versions when using the compare screen (all installed Bible versions will be presented) as well as select the specific compare mode you want (Bible versions side-by-side, or above and below each other).

List

TheWord allows the user to make and use Lists of Bible verses. See the Class “Using Bible Lists“.

Diamond in far left of Bible Version Selector Bar

Finally notice that in the far left hand corner there is a diamond (upside down triangle).

Clicking on this shows you some options for Bible versions. You can access the Information about the Bible version here, tab actions, and even change the specific background color of the Bar when a specific Bible is selected.

Again there are a lot of options here to choose from, and some are available from other points in the program. Those specific to Bible Versions are the top most options.

IMPORTANT: Ctrl-T will make the left hand set of icons disappear or reappear.

Bible Window History

These icons are the two green arrows in the image at left. First of all, the left arrow is to go back in the history, and the right arrow is to go forward.

Also notice that both have a small down arrow to the right of them. Clicking on this down arrow as I did in the image will bring up the history (if one exists this session), complete with the Bible reference as well as the abbreviation of the Bible version you were viewing it in. This goes both ways, forward and backward.

For example, if you look at Mat 1:1, Mark 1:1, Luke 1:1, and then John 1:1 in that order (ifrst thing when you start your TW session) then the top arrow will be green and the bottom arrow with be grey. If you click the back history arrow, the bottom arrow will become green and you can go back and forth through the current sessions verses.

theWord Bibleview Previous and Next Book Icons

This previous and next book icons work the same as the Bible history, except it jumps to the next/previous book in the Bible. Notice that all the New Testament books have a redish burgandy color book icon, and the Old Testament books have green icons.

The bottom four icons on the above image do the very same thing (next/previous) but with the next and previous chapter, and the next and previous verse.

Enlarging Bible Texts

Please note that these icons are for temporarily enlarging the text of a Bible so that you can read problematic texts. In most cases, the English user will not need to use this (except for those with failing eyesight), but in the case of Hebrew texts, it is almost constantly used because of the vowel pointing which is hard to see on a computer screen.

For permanently enlarging the texts of a particular Bible version, see “Visually Impaired Users.”
